『植物は〈未来〉を知っている』／PLANT REVOLUTION を読む

植物は人には見えないように動き、聞こえないように話す。

姿を変え、周囲の生物を「(香り)揮発性芳香物質」で誘ったり避けたりしている。

人は植物の全てを知ることなどできないだろう。だからこそ植物は魅力的だ。

この本はその魅力と可能性を改めて感じさせてくれる。

著著はステファノ・マンクーゾ。イタリア、フィレンツェ大学農学部教授。国際的な「植物の信号と行動学会」の創設者の一人である。本では多くの興味深い写真を紹介し、先人の言葉や言語学的背景、思想的背景も引用している。

Plants move to be invisible to people and speak so that they can not be heard. 

They are changing their appearance. Utilizing their "volatile aromatic substances ", 

plants are inviting or avoiding surrounding creatures. So people will not be able to know all about this living thing and that's why plants are attractive. 

This book makes us feel that charm and possibility again.

Author is Stefano Mancuzo, Professor of Faculty of Agriculture, University of Florence, Italy.  He is one of the founders of "The Society of Plant Signaling & Behavior".  In this book, he introduces many interesting photos, and also quotes predecessor's words, linguistic backgrounds, and ideological backgrounds.
